Russia: Night Wolves bikers escort the Olympic flame
Hundreds of bikers from the Night Wolves motorcycle club tore through the centre of Moscow on Sunday, escorting the Olympic torch on its journey from the Vnukovo airport to Red Square for the welcoming ceremony. The flame was flown out of Athens on Saturday, after being lit at the ancient sanctuary of Olympia, symbolic home of the Games.
After this ceremony, the torch will leave on an epic journey across the country, travelling through 83 regions and 2,900 towns for a total distance of 65,000km, before finally reaching the Olympic stadium in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi on February 7 2014. Around 14,000 torchbearers will carry the flame before it finally lights the brazier to signal the start of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games.
