USA: Capitol Hill car chase shoot out throws Washington into lockdown
Police shot and killed a female driver who rammed a security barrier and a patrol car during a motor pursuit near the US Capitol Building in Washington D.C., Thursday. One police officer was wounded in the chase and has reportedly been sent for treatment at MedStar Washington Hospital. According to local media sources his injuries are not life threatening.
Multiple gun shots were reported by witnesses at around 2pm, causing Capitol Police to immediately shut down access to the hill. Members of the House went quickly into recess and left the floors of the house in response to the warning.
Security forces put out a warning to local people to stay in their homes and away from doors and windows.
