Italy: Migrants lost at sea after boat disaster
At least 141 migrants have been rescued in waters off the Italian island of Lampedusa after were forced to jump into the sea when their boat caught fire, a mile (1.6 km) away from Conigli island, on Thursday.
At least 94 migrants have been reported dead in the sinking, including a pregnant woman and three-year-old child. Rescuers speculate that the death toll could rise as the search continues for around 250 missing people. The mayor of Lampedusa, Giusi Nicolini, told reporters that the migrants rescued so far were from sub-Saharan Africa, presumably from Somalia.
