Russia: 'Terminator 2' tank unveiled at RAE 2013

Uralvagonzavod Corporation uncovered its new tank, the BMPT-72, in a dazzling presentation at the Russia Arms Expo (RAE 2013) in Nizhny Tagil on Friday. The BMPT-72, dubbed 'Terminator-2' was shown to journalists in a multimedia light show at a 900 m2 presentation centre built especially for the exhibition.

The BMPT-72 (Terminator-2) is an upgrade of the world famous Uralvagonzavod T-72 tank.

When designing the BMPT-72, engineers relied on the experience gained from developing and creating the BMPT, which is also known as Terminator due to its gun power.

Like its standard model, the BMPT-72 is a multipurpose tank and infantry fire support vehicle with new features such as an upgraded fire-control system and turret weapon station protection.

RAE 2013 promotes Russian military equipment, arms and ammunition to both domestic and foreign markets. More than 400 exhibitors from 50 countries are expected to take part this year. The RAE has been regularly held since 1999, and runs from September 25 till September 28. The expo opened its doors to the public on Friday.
