Belarus: Eat your heart out, Hollywood
Soldiers from the six nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) put their skills to the test from September 20 to 25 in Belarus, at the Vzaimodeystviye 2013 ("Interaction 2013") military exercises. Over 600 personnel from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan took part.
The exercise was built upon an imaginary scenario that extremist groups had infiltrated a CSTO member state for the purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks and destabilising the country. The exercise included three phases, and for the first time self-propelled artillery units were air dropped during the exercise.
The CSTO was formed in 1992. In 2009 members formed the Collective Rapid Reaction Force, a military task force able to respond quickly to counter military aggression against CSTO member states, terrorism and drug trafficking.
