USA: Rouhani calls for Israel to come clean on nukes
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani spoke on nuclear disarmament at the 68th session of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, calling on the world to join in bringing down the supplies of nuclear weapons. The leader of the Islamic Republic also called on Israel, which is generally considered to have nuclear weapons despite refusing to confirm or deny the fact, to come clean and join the non-profileration treaty.
He invoked the spirit of 1961 by affirming the Non-Aligned Movement's (NAM) dedication to nuclear disarmament, calling for the world to "invest in development, eradicating poverty, ignorance, and disease" opposed to nuclear proliferation. He also claimed NAM was "determined to make every effort to realise the vision of a nuclear weapon free world without further delay, before calling for "Israel, the only non-party to the non-proliferation treaty" in the Middle East to "join the treaty without any further delay."
