France: Menacing ducks slow speed demon drivers
Vehicle speed can be a deadly issue for many highways going to large cities like Paris. However Villotran, a small French town 90km north of Paris, has contracted wild ducks to halt any rushing vehicles that may pose a threat to their small town.
The unique solution has indeed enforced a speeding limit on French motorists, and it has even halted vehicles completely, making the driver steer around the ducks to get by.
The ducks are in a pond located right next to the main road that goes through the village. They roam around freely on the roads thus forcing the motorists to slow down. Although the method was chosen for its low-cost benefits when compared to constructing speed breakers, the project has not been perfect. Around 15 ducks have been killed by speeding vehicles so far.
