USA: Protest against Iranian president takes over NYC
Hundreds of Iranian Americans protested alongside human rights activists on Tuesday in New York City against newly elected Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, who is due to speak on Tuesday afternoon at the United Nations General Assembly. Their protest was organised at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on E47th and 2nd, opposite the UN.
There were a variety of protest messages at the square, from a group of men shouting 'Free Palestine', to a woman with Occupy Justice written on the back of her head dress, to anti-intervention in Syria and to pro-Muslim Brotherhood.
Speakers talked to the crowd from a podium at the front of the protest. Family members of those who died at Camp Ashraf in Iraq were sitting at the front of the protest wearing yellow shirts. Also present was the ARIA drummer group who loudly banged their drums as protesters clapped in support while waving flags in support.
