Germany: Revolutionary mobility, evolutionary power - BMW i3 Head of Production
Europe's first zero emissions electric car, the BMW i3, went into mass production at the BMW Leipzig plant Wednesday.
Dr. H. Schramm, Head of Production of i3, said, "This is our answer for the mobility in the big cities and areas. But we think both is important, on one side the revolution, this kind of moblilty and on the other side the evolution, the petrol car". Schramm also said, "We have a project in Germany to have stations where you can charge the car on the highway from Berlin to Munich, so this is also important, but this car is mainly for urban cities"
The German car manufacturing giant uses carbon fiber-reinforced plastic on its new electric i3 to shave off up to 770 pounds from the autobody, the result is a four-passenger car that can go 100 miles on a charge with a market price of $40,000. With sales already underway, the first deliveries to several European countries are slated to start in November.
