Brazil: The pepper spray comes out at Independence day
Clashes between military police and protesters broke out early as around 1000 protesters rallied in front of the congress on Brazil's Independence day, on Saturday, in Brasilia.
Police used pepper spray to disperse protesters while they chanted anti-police and government slogans. Demonstrators carried banners against corruption and what they consider to be poor public services. They also claimed next year's World Cup works to renovate football stadiums, not localities.
The streets of around 150 other Brazilian cities have also been taken by protesters. However, demonstrations have been far smaller than those held last July all over the country to protest against public policies.
