France: Syrian invasion will 'destroy everything' says Kurdish leader
Kurdish politician and Democratic Union Party (PYD) leader Salih Muslim Muhammad spoke out against the planned attack by the US and UK on Tuesday, saying that intervention into the already-conflict ravaged nation will cause greater hardship and division.
Salih Muslim Muhammad said, "What we are seeing, I mean the scene is showing that there are some scenarios for maybe military invasion which is not acceptable by most of the parties and especially by the Kurds, because we believe any military invasion into Syria will destroy everything, will destroy all Syria."
Salih Muhammad also commented on an economic embargo in Kurdish areas in the last three months as a result of a shortage of food and medicines. He stated that there were a number of attacks by Salafist groups in Kurdish areas and that the communities are facing an increasingly bad situation.
The PYD, a nationalist and leftist organisation, controls several majority-Kurdish areas in the north east of Syria. The PYD operates as part of the Kurdish Supreme Committee which claims sovereignity over Kurdish areas, despite advocating dialogue over secession.
