UK: Police on standby as loyalists march through Belfast
The Dundonald Purple Vine Lodge held a parade through the Northern Ireland capital Belfast on Saturday in the latest instalment of marching season. Marching to the sound of fife and drum, and carrying several Union flags, some 200 members of the loyalist Protestant group turned out for the parade.
Police were on hand to supervise the march, which remained peaceful. Many of Belfast's pubs were packed with loyalists on Saturday evening and the streets were full of police, expectant of growing tensions between loyalists and republicans as the night wears on.
Belfast has witnessed sectarian violence on a number of occasions in 2013, including clashes in July when 32 police officers were injured during Orange Order protests.
