Germany: Federal election opponents deface candidate posters
With Germany's September 22 federal elections approaching fast, the streets of Berlin stand plastered with posters and other advertisements for political campaigns, but many hang defaced, slashed and gratified with slogans and drawings.
As during any election, committed voters and political activists living in Berlin hold strong opinions and ideas on the parties and politicians taking part in the election that will determine the members of the 18th Bundestag.
But other than organising support or opposition rallies, certain people seem to have taken to distorting and, in some cases, destroying opposition poster campaigns to get their message across. In some cases, CDU posters featuring Germany's current Chancellor Angela Merkel have been seen with 'Hitler moustaches' drawn on.
Parties, including the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Social Democratic Party (SPD), Christian Social Union (CSU), Free Democratic Party (FDP), Die Linke ('the Left'), the Greens and the Pirate Party, have all covered the German capital with advertisements, many of which have been seen damaged.
