Syria: Harra falls as Syrian army continues advance
The village of Harra, formerly under opposition control, fell to the Syrian army on Saturday - authorities report. The town, located on the north-west of the Daraa district, was the scene of many battles as opposition forces and the government battled for control.
Forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad's government freed prisoners held by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and captured weapons and munitions, following their victory. The forces went on to discover a military field hospital that was being used by the FSA to treat the wounded.
The army reportedly found an almost empty village upon their arrival, since the vast majority of the residents had left their houses due to the ongoing military operations. The UN reports that 5,000 people are dying a month in Syria. The conflict, which is in its third year, has already taken the lives of over 100,000 people.
