UK: Belfast burns as tensions boil over
Vehicles and property were seen burning in Belfast on Friday evening as unrest spilled over from a parade and counter-protest earlier in the day.
Police had earlier clashed with protesters in a demonstration in the Northern Ireland capital. Bricks, missiles, bottles and fireworks were combated by police with water cannon and plastic bullets. The protest was held by loyalists who opposed a dissident republican parade in the centre of the city.
Organised by the Anti-Internment League, the march marks the anniversary of the introduction by British authorities of internment without trial in 1971. The 5,000-people march went ahead despite political opposition.
