Thousands of Muslims gathered today in Moscow to commence morning prayer in celebration of Eid Al Fitr, the feast of breaking the fast of Ramadan next to the Moscow cathedral mosque which is currently under construction.
Eid Al Fitr is an important religious holiday in Islam that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. The event was first initiated by the Islamic prophet Muhammad and sees Muslims donate money to the poor and needy as a requisite act of charity.
Islam is known to be the second most widely practiced religion within the Russian Federation and part of the greater historical heritage of Russia.
