Turkey: Police disperse Turkish Kurd protesters near Syria border
Police clashed with supporters of the Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) near Ceylanpinar in Turkey on Monday. BDP protesters gathered near the Turkish-Syrian border town, in contravention of a police ban. Turkish Kurds were aiming to show their support and solidarity with Syrian Kurds.
A police command ordering the protesters to disperse was met with stone-throwing by demonstrators. The police used water canons and tear gas in response. At least one protester was injured and 12 arrested.
The BDP protest was in support of Syrian Kurds who feel threatened by jihadists and who reportedly have been the victims of jihadist attacks.
