Germany: Metalheads swamp sleepy village of Wacken
Over 75,000 metalheads descended on the usually sleepy German village of Wacken on Thursday for Wacken Open Air, the self-proclaimed biggest heavy metal festival in the world. Revellers overran the streets and grocery stores of the small rural village whose population comes in at just under 2,000.
The village's serene fields soon swelled with mud-shod and beer swilling rock fans, eager to see German rock band Rammstein headlining Thursday night with a spectacular pyro show.
The annual, world-famous festival will rock Wacken until Sunday with other highlights including British group "Deep Purple" and legendary US artist Alice Cooper.
