Russia: Snowden needs time to recover says leaker's lawyer
Edward Snowden’s lawyer in Russia, Anatoly Kucherena, said the NSA whistleblower needs some privacy but eventually intends to talk to the press in Russia, following his receipt of temporary asylum in Russia.
"As for direct contact with the press – yes we have been talking about this, and he is indeed ready to get in touch with the press, but please understand, that first he needs some time for adaptation," the lawyer said.
Speaking at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport, Kucherena was presenting the NSA leaker's official documentation that allows him to stay in Russia for a year to the press, on Thursday.
"This is the certificate allowing him temporary asylum in Russian Federation," the lawyer said.
His present location has not been made public nor will it be disclosed, Kucherena said.
"Given that he is the most wanted person on the Earth; today he will be dealing among others with the questions of security," the lawyer said.
Snowden has been in the transit area of Sheremetyevo Airport since arriving on a flight from Hong Kong in June. He is wanted by the US on charges of treason, among others, and may face the death penalty if brought before a US court.
