Russia: Ukrainian Navy welcomed in St. Petersburg
Russia and Ukraine celebrated Navy Day, a national celebration of the past heroism of the seaborne armed forces of both nations, in the city of St. Petersburg on Sunday, with a parade involving sailors and officer from each country's navy and a display of warships, including ships from the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
The event began with a grand rally at the "Bronze Horseman" statue of Russian emperor Peter the Great, followed by a formal congratulation ceremony from the local governor to navy personnel of both countries. Members of both navies also wielded flags and marched during the ceremony.
Russia and Ukraine have conducted several joint military exercises over the last few years since cooperation between the two nations' armed forces resumed in 2010.
