      Turkey: Roasting wrestlers ready to drop

      On the third day of the Kirkpinar oil wrestling festival on Sunday the blistering hot sun showed no mercy to the wrestlers. Temperatures soared above 35 degrees, which made the situation incredibly difficult for the competitors who regularly passed out after a match.

      About 500 wrestlers registered for the 652nd edition of Kirkpinar. There are 14 categories according to age and weight and the pants worn by each wrestler weighs around 13 kg.

      On Sunday, only the final elimination rounds are taking place of all the categories with the finals to be held in the late afternoon. Tensions are as high as the temperature in the stadium with some fights breaking out amongst spectators. There have been however no arrests as of yet.
