Russia: Putin and Maduro praise Chavez for bringing countries closer

The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, visited the Kremlin on Tuesday, to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discuss the strengthening of Venezuela's relationship with the eastern European leading nation.

President Maduro said that [Late President Hugo Chavez] had the vision to start constructing a relationship of strategic character. And then, during those first encounters with President Putin, they were able to visualise what today is our reality - this relationship that both our countries have. And we can even include both our regions - this great Russian Federation and Latin America and the Caribbean comes from there, from the well conceived attempts and working in a consistent manner."

Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, also assured a good faith in regards to the bilateral relations with the Latin American country: "We engaged in substantive and constructive discussions with the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro. We discussed key aspects of Russian-Venezuelan strategic cooperation. At the source of this cooperation stood a strong and honest friend of Russia, President Hugo Chavez. We remember and honour his memory in Russia.

Putin promised the Venezuelan leader that Russia will honour late President Chavez on the streets of Moscow: In the context of socio-political action in Moscow, under the title of 'Russia honours the memory of Hugo Chavez', one of the streets of the city will be named after him. As a result of our conversation with Mister Maduro, we strengthened mutual provisions for the continuation of the policy of strategic cooperation between Russian and Venezuela in all directions."
