      Netherlands: Age old game of football gets futuristic makeover

      Mini and teensize autonomous robots took to the football field in Eindhoven on Sunday, in a bid to play the beautiful game like human beings, but battle it out as androids. The indoor centre had robot workshops and demonstrations before competition time commenced, showing visitors how multi-robot and multi-agent systems can react in adversarial environments.

      The main focal point of Robocop is the football championships where fully autonomous robots, looking like humans, compete against international teams to become champions in their category. The organisers of the event made the traditional game of football a challenge by mixing it with the field of software and mechatronics for robots.

      In the final competition of the humanoid teen category, the team from Germany, Universitat Bonn, played and won, 4:0, against Cit Brains form Japan. Spectators caught glimpses of the innovative work undertaken by robot inventors, in how the mechanics of a robot can shape their dynamics, cognition, navigation and artificial intelligence.
