France: From Mali to Paris, aircrafts from 'Operation Sevral' on display
Thousands of visitors used their day off to admire aircrafts and armoured helicopters of the French Ministry of Defence in Le Bourget on Saturday. Models on display featured aircraft used by the French Navy and Air Force, including Mirage jet fighters, Rafale jet fighters, the Tigre EC655 attack helicopter, and a 'Caiman' NH90 helicopter.
According to the French Ministry of Defense, four Mirage 2000D jets were sent to the north of Mali from Chad in January 2013 and conducted air strikes on targets under "Operation Sevral". During Sevral, the Rafale jet was on high-alert in preparation for deployment while the Tigre attack helicopters were sent to Ouagadougou.
Just like the Rafale, the Mirage is manufactured by the French company Dassault Aviation. France's jet fighter has attained popularity in the global defence market, notably with a $15 billion (€11.4 bn) deal with the Indian Defence Ministry.
The Tigre helicopter is the result of a cooperation of the German-Franco company Eurocopter, who also manages the final assembly of the Caiman NH90.
