France: Boeing battles with Airbus for business at Paris Air Show
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner took to the skies on Friday as the world's commercial-aviation giants, Boeing and Airbus, fight for supremacy at the the Paris Air Show. In the first day alone Boeing signed a deal passing on 10 Dreamliners to GECAS, the world's largest aircraft lessor.
However, Airbus nudged out Boeing for total sales, selling some 466 aircraft to Boeing's 442 as the business portion closed on Thursday. The rival companies sold a whopping 908 aircraft between them, with list prices putting the total value at $134.7 billion.
Airbus flaunted their brand new A350 XWB at the Le Bourget airfield following two successful test flights. Energy-efficient due to carbon-fiber reinforced plastic composites, the Airbus A350 XWB recieved some 69 orders and commitments worth $21.4 billion during the show.
Airbus also showcased their A380, currently the largest passenger airliner in the world, culminating in a deal worth over 8 billion with Doric Lease Corp, which will see 20 A380s join the leasing company. Both deals brought the total of Airbus earnings to US$68.7 billion worth of business for some 466 aircraft over the 7-day-show.
The 2013 Paris Air Show runs from 17 to 23 June 2013 at the Le Bourget Airport and Exhibition Center, and is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of trade and public visitors alongside 2000 exhibitors from 46 countries.
