      Russia: Sapp succumbs to Emilianenko onslaught in first round

      Heavyweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Alexander Emelianenko won by technical knockout over American Bob Sapp at the Legend Fighting Show on Saturday night at the Luzhniki Palace in Moscow. The Russian dropped Sapp to the ground with devastating punches in the beginning of the fight and proceeded to rain down a hail of fists onto the head of the vulnerable Sapp, prompting the referee to stop the fight at one minute and nineteen seconds.

      The 121 kilogram brother of world-famous Fedor 'Last Emperor' Emelianenko increased his record to 22 wins and 6 losses. Sapp, weighing in at 154 kilos, fell to 11 wins and 19 losses after the referee called the technical knockout.

      Emelianenko returned to the ring after spending several months in a Greek Orthodox monastry at Mount Athos. The mixed martial artist is a three-time Russian national Combat Sambo champion and a three-time world Combat Sambo champion in the absolute division.
