UK: Woolwich suspect's former life shows no sign of struggle
The scene outside Romford's Marshall Park School, previously attended by Michael Adebolajo, one of the alleged perpetrators of the murder of a British soldier on Wednesday, remains quiet on Thursday. The identity of the soldier murdered outside the Woolwich Barracks in London has been released as 25-year-old Drummer Lee Rigby of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
Michael Adebolajo is reported to be a British citizen of Nigerian descent, raised in a Christian family before converting to Islam. A house believed to be the former family residence, also in the north-east London suburb of Romford, is reportedly where Adebolajo was living during his early teenage years. Forensics have begun investigating another house in Romford, said to be home to Adebolajo's sister, Blessing Adebolajo.
Lee Rigby was fatally attacked, allegedly by Adebolajo and another man wielding knives and meat-cleavers after running him down in a vehicle. The alleged perpetrators, one of whom remains unidentified, were filmed immediately after the incident by eyewitnesses. Video footage shows the suspects holding their weapons with blood-covered hands waiting for police to arrive.
Police shot both alleged attackers after they attempted to confront authorities, with one of the men reported to have been carrying a firearm. The two men are now being treated in separate local hospitals.
