Russia: Russia's strongest woman goes head to head with challenger
Russia's strongest woman Marina Kigeleva, aka 'Armour', was challenged to a tank-pulling face-off on Saturday by rival Olga Saltykova. The clash of titans was held in the city of Chelyabinsk, made internationally famous by the nearby meteor strike in February 2013.
Saltykova tried to defeat Kigeleva in towing a BTR-90 armoured fighting vehicle, weighing more than 20 metric tonnes. Armour, who weighs 110 kilograms, easily knocked off the challenge. She towed the vehicle 2.5 metres, one metre further than Saltykova, who was able to move it 1.5 metres.
Kigeleva became known as Russia's strongest woman in 2009 after towing a 175 tons weighing locomotive over a distance of 10 metres in 52 seconds. Earlier in the same year she reportedly moved a 14-ton harvester for more than 2 metres uphill 'on the rough country road'.
Kigeleva works as an investigator at the police. She decided to enter 'strongwoman' competitions after she left the Russian army where she worked at a tank division.
