Russia: Tank-mount-view at Red Square Victory Day drill
A rehearsal for Russia's main Victory Day parade was held in Moscow's Red Square on Tuesday. Featuring thousands of troops and military hardware from the Ground Forces, Strategic Rocket Forces, Airborne Troops and Air Defense Forces, the drill sets the stage for the May 9 Victory Day celebrations on Thursday.
Commander-in-Chief of the Land Force, Colonel-General Vladimir Chirkin will command the parade marking 68 years since the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War Two. Around 11,000 Russian military personnel and a variety of vehicles including T- 90 tanks, BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers, and Topol-M missiles systems will make their way across Red Square during the procession.
Almost 70 Russian Air Force aircrafts will also take to the skies over the parade, such as Mig-29 and Mi-31 fighter jets, Sukhoi Su-24 airplanes and Mil Mi-8 helicopters. In a bid to ensure good weather for the event, 10 aircraft loaded with reagents for cloud dispersal will be deployed by the Russian Air Force to make sure no rain spoils the parade.
