Hungary: Russian FM honours fallen Soviet soldiers in Budapest
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid tribute to fallen Soviet soldiers in Budapest on Thursday. He entered the Soviet Red Army Memorial at Freedom Square, preceded by Russian soldiers carrying a large wreath.
Afterwards, Lavrov met with his Hungarian counterpart Janos Martonyi to discuss the current state of trade along with ways to advance future bilateral relations between Russia and Hungary.
Soldiers laid the wreath at the foot of a 5 meter tall monument, which commemorates the liberation of Budapest from Nazi Germany in 1945. The Russian Foreign Minister then bowed as a sign of respect before continuing to a conference with Martonyi.
The two Foreign Ministers went into details about top priority economic and energy projects. Russia's Foreign Ministry said both sides confirmed the importance of finishing the 'South Stream' natural gas pipeline, which is routed through Hungary and set to go into operation in 2015. The Ministers also discussed humanitarian issues and agreed on concrete steps that would strengthen the Russian-Hungarian partnership internationally.
