West Bank: Tensions flare over Israeli settlers visit
Dozens of Israeli settlers accompanied by armed Israeli soldiers clashed with Palestinians at the historic site, the Solomon's Pools on Tuesday. The pools are located south of Bethlehem between Al-Khadar town and Artass village.
According to local media the verbal dispute between angered Palestinian citizens and Israeli settlers led to physical clashes, which prevented the settlers from performing religious rituals at the site. Palestinians were heard telling Israelis that the land does not belong to them.
The pool's name and religious significance derives from the Biblical chapter, Ecclesiastes, where Solomon refers to making pools of water to help grow the trees. The water from these pools now reach Bethlehem via an aqueduct system.
