Russia: Presidential Regiment guards parade in Kremlin's Cathedral Square
The first ceremony of the equestrian and pedestrian procession of the Presidential Regiment was held on Saturday at the Kremlin. From April until the end of October, a demonstration of the changing of guards takes place every Saturday at noon. It is open to the public.
During the ceremony, the Kremlin guards, who wear uniforms resembling those of the Russian military under Czar Nicholas II (1907-1913), play music, dance and display their weapon-handling skills. The Presidential Regiment was founded in 1936 to guarantee the security of state officials, as well as guarding the Kremlin and its treasures.
Each year on its anniversary held on May 7, the regiment puts on a special parade for the President.
