The Netherlands: Pedophile Association: "Society should be glad with pedophiles"

According to Marthijn Uittenbogaard, the Chairman of Martijn, "society should be glad with pedophiles" in an interview Monday in Hengelo. Martijn is an association that supports sexual relations between adults and minors and advocates for the legalisation of pedophile and sexual relations between grown ups and children.

Uittenbogaard has been a member of Martijn since 1998. The association currently has around sixty members. At some point in its history, the pedophile association had an estimated number of 600 member, all living in the Netherlands.

In an interview Uittenbogaard says that "physical contact between grown up people and children is healthy and some things we call sex can also be healthy" and "I think it is a very good healthy society when children can be naked, when they can enjoy their body and that they can be touched everywhere they want too." Next to that he thinks that "everyone has pedophile feelings in themselves. Everyone, and it are very normal feelings, but some have them stronger than other people." Moreover, he mentions that "you can't do all the things with young children of course, but you can hug them or grasp them."

A Dutch court of justice prohibited the pedophile association in 2012. However in an appeal in March 2013 a higher court decided to reject the ban on Martijn. The controversial court ruling was criticised by large parts of Dutch society, including Members of Parliament.

The court motivated its decision by stating that the association does not provoke any societal disruption. Moreover, the court does not find it proven the pedophile association has committed criminal facts, despite the fact that some of its members have. A number of Martijn members have been sentenced for sexual offences.
