Russia: Snowfall paralyses Moscow traffic

Heavy snowfall caused traffic jams and car accidents in Moscow on Monday. The snowfall led to around 20 kilometres of bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Moscow ring road.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations warned drivers that the heavy snowfall could lead to hazardous situations on the road.

According to meteorologists it has been extremely cold in the Russian capital, with experts saying that such unusual weather only occurs in March once every three to four decades. The snowstorm started on Sunday, with weather forecasters expecting the snowfall to continue throughout Monday.
