Switzerland: Backstage at the chocolate fashion show
Models in Zurich showed off the latest designs on the catwalk on Thursday, but these were the creations of chocolatiers rather than haute couture. Designers worked with Swiss confectioners on the creations, some of which took up to 100 hours to build.
About 900 kilograms of chocolate were used for the unique designs shown at the "Defilee du Chocolat" in Zurich. The airy confections won't be available on store shelves any time soon; the hot stage lighting and body heat means each piece can only be worn once.
For the next three days the models need to cover up their bodies with chocolate creations and run down the cat walk for the expected 20,000 visitors. The preparation for each daily show takes up to four hours. Every part of the dress is stored in a box with dry ice. The princess gown, the last creation presented on the catwalk weighs over 100 kilograms.
