State of Palestine: Jericho marches for disabled children
Activists and backers of children with disabilities marched in the West Bank city of Jericho on Monday in support of a local community centre.
The march saw dozens taking to the streets to draw attention to the lack of support and help that disabled children receive in the Palestinian state.
Organisers say their aim is to raise money to buy basic necessities for the children, such as wheelchairs.
Director of the Municipal Community Centre Mahira Jaber said: "Most locals are still unaware about this centre and its services. So we decided to hold this event to let people know about it, and to provide financial and moral support to this group of people who are an important part of our community."
The march was well received by charities and government officials who saw it as a step forward in improving the lives of the children.
Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Majed al-Fityani said: "It's important that people with disabilities can participate in this event, especially today, when our community has been suffering from hardships, wars and attacks."
