      State of Palestine: Protests rage at funeral of Palestinian prisoner

      Pandemonium erupted in Hebron on Monday at the funeral of a Palestinian prisoner who died of cardiac arrest in Israeli jail. Thirty year-old Arafat Jaradat, died on Friday in Megiddo prison amidst claims by the coroner's report and his lawyers, that he was tortured before his death. Israel claims the autopsy carried out in the presence of a Palestinian doctor was inconclusive.

      Israel troops were on high-alert as masked Palestinian gunmen, kitted out in full combat gear, fired in the air. The crack of gunfire and din of protests of broke the funeral's sombre silence in the prisoner's home town of Se'eer.

      The spectre of chaos has raised fears in Israel of a third intifada, which were prefaced in the past by high death tolls during fierce protests, Israeli Homeland Minister, Avi Dichter said on army radio on Monday.
