Protesters rally against COVID-19 restrictions, vaccine mandate in Vienna

Austria, Vienna

Protesters are gathering in Vienna on Saturday, February 12, to demonstrate against coronavirus restrictions and the vaccine mandate.

Austria became the first European country to adopt the compulsory COVID-19 vaccination on January 20, after the majority of the Parliament voted in favour of the bill, despite opposition from the right-wing Freedom Party.

On Thursday, February 3, the bill was approved by the Austrian Federal Council and became effective two days after on February 5.

Those who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19 may face fines of between €600 - €3,600 ($680 - $4,100).
