Protesters take to the streets of Paris for new demonstrations against Global Security Bill
Ruptly is live from Paris on Saturday, January 16, as protesters hit the streets for the second round of the 'March of Powers' and 'March of Liberties' to demonstrate against the Global Security Bill.
The bill intended to ban the publication of any photo or footage that identified police in any way that was considered ill-intentioned. Offenders would risk a prison sentence of up to one year and a maximum fee of €45,000 ($54,700).
Following violent protests and harsh criticism from journalists, activists, and human rights defenders, saying that the bill cuts down fundamental rights and press freedoms, the French government announced in early December that they would completely rewrite the initial draft of the article.
