
Nigeria: At least one dead, dozens trapped as building collapses in Abuja
A three-storey building collapsed in Abuja on Thursday, leaving at least one dead and many others trapped.
Footage shows the rescue teams working diligently to evacuate those who were still trapped under the rubble.
According to local media citing Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FCT-FEMA), 21 individuals have been rescued in a combined effort by multiple agencies.
"I just went out to go and buy something. On my way back I heard a noise, 'poowaaah'. The building collapsed and I rescued my own life. The collapse occurred around 10 am but till now bodies are still being removed from the rubbles. Some of the rescued workers came out paralysed, while others came out with their legs and heads gone," said Sulaiman Abdul, a worker in the collapsed building.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown.
