The head of the Russian cultural centre in the Central African Republic (CAR), Dmitry Syty was injured in the capital city of Bangui on Friday, after opening a parcel of unknown origin.
According to the Russian embassy, an explosion occurred after Syty opened the anonymous letter addressed to him. The Russian diplomat suffered a concussion and blood loss but his life is not in danger.
Head of the Russian private military company, Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed Syty earlier received a photo of his son along with threats that 'Russians must leave the African continent and give way to the French'.
The Russian embassy said it has tightened security measures after the attack and sees the incident as an assassination attempt.
The Central African Republic is currently investigating the incident as an act of terror.
