Belgium: Brussels airport gears up for COVID vaccine distribution
Brussels international airport has begun gearing up and preparing to be ready to distribute COVID-19 vaccines as seen on Tuesday at a DHL warehouse at the site.
"We think there will be a peak in February, March but from January I think we will have charter flights out of Brussels to different parts of the world," the director of Air Cargo Belgium, Geert Keirens commented, as test flights to ensure doses are ready for distribution after the vaccines receive approval have begun taking place.
Some of the vaccines are set to be kept at extremely low temperatures in small quantities with larger shipments not expected to take place before January.
The sorting centre to be used for the vaccines has a total capacity of 31,500 square metres (339,063 square foot) and is capable of processing up to 42,000 parcels per hour.
