Poland: Protesters wave coathangers as thousands rally against abortion ruling in Krakow
Thousands of people gathered in Krakow on Sunday to protest against the country's constitutional court's recent abortion ruling.
An estimated ten thousand protesters gathered in front of the Archdiocese of the Catholic Church and also rallied outside the offices of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.
A small number of counter-protesters confronted the protesters while a state TV film crew was reportedly asked to leave by police as their presence was provoking demonstrators.
On Thursday, the Polish constitutional court issued a ruling that banned nearly all abortions, with exceptions only for instances of for rape, incest, and when keeping a foetus would endanger a woman's life.
The ruling found that an existing law allowing abortion in the case of foetal abnormalities, which accounts for the vast majority of terminations in the country, was incompatible with the Polish constitution.
