Syria: Kurdish forces hand over custody of 4 children from IS families to Germany
The custody of four orphaned German children whose families were part of the Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Syira was transferred from Syrian-Kurdish authorities to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Semalka border crossing with Iraq on Monday.
The children are a boy, two girls and a 6-month-old baby who is reportedly in poor health. The infants were among IS families who surrendered after the militants were defeated.
This is the first occasion Germany has repatriated IS children into custody from Syria. Fanar al-Kaeet, a Foreign Relations Official for Kurdish forces, hopes for more exchanges like that to happen in the future.
