
Pedal to the medal - Briton breaks world men's cycling speed record thanks to Porsche
British cyclist Neil Campbell broke the men's cycling speed record at Elvington Airfield in North Yorkshire on Saturday.
Using a Porsche Cayenne pace car, Campbell managed to go as fast as 280 km/h (174 mph) on breaking the previous record set in 1995.
"The current record is 166.9 mile (269 km/h) an hour which was set by Fred Rompelberg in Bonneville Salt Flats in America," said Campbell prior to his attempt.
The overall cycling speed record in slipstream of 296.009 km/h (183.931 mph) is currently held by a woman, Denise Mueller-Koronek.
