Russia: Iranian tank breaks down in tank biathlon competition

Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from an Iranian tank during the tank biathlon competition of the International Army Games 2019 in Alabino on Monday.

Fire trucks rushed to extinguish the fire, which organisers said was caused by the tank’s engine overheating due to the crew's mistake of forgetting to open the blinds of the tank’s engine cooling system. No one was injured in the incident.

On Monday, crews from Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Russia, and Armenia were seen competing in an individual tank biathlon race.

Teams from 25 countries are expected to participate in this year's edition of the Army Games, which consists of contests involving tanks, snipers as well as different air and sea disciplines.

The tank biathlon finals will take place on August 17.
