The caravan of thousands of Central American migrants resumed its long march towards the United States on Saturday, after spending five days in Mexico City.
The group left the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City in the early morning, navigating the subway to reach Cuatro Caminos station on the northern outskirts, where they looked for rides to hitch. They are hoping to reach the city of Queretaro, around 200km (125 miles) on the permiter highway.
Although a small group had abandoned the caravan, about 4,000 migrants opted to continue their journey northwards with the ultimate aim of obtaining political asylum in the United States, despite US President Donald Trump's insistence to the contrary.
The migrants, mostly fleeing violence and poverty, have been travelling for almost a month after the group first formed in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The caravan is expected to travel 2,800km (1,740 miles) towards the US southern border at Tijuana.
