03:11Afghanistan: Army seizes hundreds of weapons from IS, Taliban
The Afghan military have seized over 625 weapons from insurgency groups including the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) and the Taliban since March, army officials announced in Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, on Monday.
Brigadier General Mohammad Karim Niazi, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, said the weapons were captured during the retaking of villages that had been under the control of insurgents.
"Several villages have been liberated from militants, we seized many weapons, we've retaken the villages which were under the control of militants during the past 14 years, now our security forces are based there, and defending the area."
All the seized weapons were apparently delivered to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) programme.
