Russia: Shoigu reports to Putin on supply of S-300 to Syria
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council in Moscow in Tuesday, during which defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reported on the delivery of the S-300 complex and other equipment to improve the security of Russian servicemen in Syria.
"We have begun to implement a number of measures aimed at strengthening air defence systems in the Syrian Arab Republic, including, first and foremost, the protection of our servicemen," Shoigu stated.
The delivery of S-300 systems includes "49 pieces of equipment: backlight locators, basic detection systems, control machines, and four launchers," according to the Defence Minister.
Reportedly, the decision to supply the S-300 systems to Syria was made after the crash of an aircraft Il-20 with Russian soldiers on board over the Mediterranean sea.
