UN: Italian PM calls international community to solve migration crisis
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte called on the international community to deal with the migration crisis during his address to the UN General Assembly in New York City on Wednesday.
"For many years Italy has been busy in rescue operation in the Mediterranean Sea, saving from sure death tens of thousands of people, doing so often alone, as it was recognised by European institutions when they said many times that 'Italy saved the honour of Europe'. The migrations that we are facing need a response that is structured, multi-layered, of short-medium and long term from the entire international community," Conte said.
Conte also specifically mentioned Libya, announcing that "In the upcoming weeks, Italy will host a conference on Libya that will have as its principle goal exactly the goal of supporting a common political process that will contribute to politically stabilise the country."
